ReplyDeleteGood morning to Uncle Adam and Auntie Kate! Ryan and Alyson welcomed their daughter, Winifred Marie Jones last night at about 8:30 CST. Winnie weighed 9 lbs and 11 oz and measured 22 in long! She has been named after Alyson's paternal grandmother and Ryan's maternal grandmother. On 7/5 we travel to WI to meet our granddaughter who will know us as Pop and Nina. Maybe you two can celebrate Winni's birth with Nigerian custom and culture and then share the experience with us all.

ReplyDeleteWe are glad to hear that you are safe and apparently doing well. Your experiences in Calabar are very interesting and remind me of growing up on a farm as a very young boy. No electricity and only kerosene lanterns and candles for light. We had no running water and all of my family bathed in small tubs on Saturday night with water being heated on the coal burning stove. Like you we listened to the radio for news and entertainment. You say you listen to the BBC for news and for my money it is the best most informative news in the United States. Thanks foe a most enjoyable blog post. Stay safe and well.

ReplyDeleteWe are continuing to enjoy your blog postings. One area I don't recall you discussing much is health. Apparently, Nigeria, like many developing countries, suffers from more than its share of disease. In particular, polio and to a lesser extent cholera, malaria, and sleeping sickness. Also Nigeria suffers from HIV and AIDS but less than some other African nations, Kenya comes to mind. I would love to hear what is going on from your perspective to fight these terrible diseases, especially AIDS, and what is happening to mulititude of young orphaned childern whose parents and succumbedto these diseases.
